Welcome 2009!

So far 2009 has been slightly challenging for us! First I got sick, then Dan got sick, then Bodhi got sick, then Dan got sick again - hmmmm...am I detecting a bit of a pattern for 2009? I hope not! Poor Bodhi woke up Wednesday with a fever of 102 and a very full nose. His fever broke yesterday but left a horrible cough and a runny nose in its wake. Just like he's naturally programmed to do, Bodhi has smiled and giggled the whole way through it with a couple of minor whines at bedtime. We've been having a great time playing with all of our new Christmas toys and going to lots of long walks. Life is good! It also seems that our Bodhi has taken to the drumsticks - much to his father's dismay - we're going to have to start buying earplugs in bulk! Here's a picture of Bodhi trying out his new sticks (which have since been hidden as he seems to have taken to playing the "let's put the drumstick in our mouth as far as we can and then try and stand up" game).

Other exciting news is that Bodhi is now completely crawling and has learned to pull himself up to standing (on everything!) and how to clap!

Needless to say, the sleep training that I spoke of in my last post has been postponed...well, let's say cancelled altogether! It just never felt right to me. Since the beginning, Bodhi and I have conquered everything head on and we always seem to come out on top. In the very beginning, we had a difficult labour together, but faced it our own way and both came out of it happy and healthy. At about 3 weeks old, we had a problem with my milk supply and Bodhi wasn't getting enough to eat, we faced that one and conquered it too! We had some issues introducing solid foods - faced it, beat it, no longer a problem. It just seems that we've always faced everything and it has all worked out in its own natural, organic way. No interventions, prescribed plans, not even a bestselling book has been used to solve our issues - we just seem to be able to figure it out for ourselves. So why not sleep? He still wakes up in the night and wants to feed a bit, but then we're both right back to sleep. Right now, this works for us. So, right now, this is what we're going to stick with. The plan may have to change at some point, but for now, we're going to take it one day at a time and just do it our way. We make a pretty great team!
