What a tough week. I normally try to leave the downer stuff out of this blog but I just have to let this one out! On Tuesday I was watching Bodhi and the girls as usual and we went to the park near our house. Grandma was with us for the morning as a treat and with the extra set of hands it definitely felt doable to get all three kids to the park and safely playing - or so I thought! After about a half hour of playing, I helped Bodhi up to the top of the slide, then told him to wait while Mommy went to the bottom to catch him (it's a super fast slide so the kids just fly off the bottom if you don't catch them). He was sitting still and waiting patiently, just as he had done the other 100 times that we've done this. Then out of nowhere, as I took my place at the bottom of the slide, he lifted his leg over the edge and fell....6 feet....off the top of the slide. It was hands down the single scariest moment of my life. He fell right in front of me, landed hard on the dirt, head and neck first. I screamed for my Mom (while Bodhi screamed for his) and rushed over to him. LUCKILY, he is completely fine (thank goodness for well padded snowsuits), but it isn't lost on me what could have happened. We rushed back home where he continued to cry for about an hour and kept trying to drift off to sleep. After numerous calls and internet research, Bodhi's doctor agreed to see him that afternoon. By the time we got to her office he was completely back to normal and after getting checked out, we were sent on our way with a large collective sigh of relief. We were sent with instructions to not let him sleep longer than 2 hours without trying to wake him and checking his pupils for the next 24 hour period. That seemed like a daunting task until that night when he was awake all night anyway, with a fever! Yes, that's right. Then he got sick. It now occurs to me that he was probably getting sick when we were at the park and was feeling dopey and groggy and lost his balance. He had woken up that morning with a cough and has been feverish, coughing and snotty (among other less glamourous things) for the last two days. He seems better today, eating again and playing, but still really worn out. Sigh.
So Friday is now in sight (tomorrow) and I'm expecting a much better day! Then off we go to St. Julienne for the long weekend to see Rob, Amelie, Gabrielle and Thomas! Bring on Friday, please!!!!
