Welcome to the world Bodhi Daniel Christopher Walmsely! Dan and I are so excited to announce that our little bundle joined us on May 7th at 11pm. He needed a little bit of coaxing to come out, but now he's here with us and we couldn't be happier.
We spent 2 and a half days in the hospital with Bodhi and came home this past Saturday afternoon. It was so surreal to actually walk through our door with baby in hand. I'd been picturing this moment for so long (about 9 months!) and it was hard to believe that it was actually happening. Since then, we've hunkered down at home, drawn the curtains and started to get to know each other. Here is what we've learned about Bodhi so far....
- He is a professional breastfeeder - seriously, we should be paying him he's so good at it.
- He is incredibly curious - especially when he's in his Dad's arms, he could just search and search that face above him for hours.
- He loves to be held, but we can already sense a little independent streak - happily sleeping in his bassinet at night (phew!).
- He has incredibly funny facial expressions - I wonder if he knows really how funny he is!
- He is so incredibly cute and cuddly and wonderful and handsome and interesting and on and on and on....
My mom has been staying with us for the past couple of days which has been absolutely amazing. I am not completely back on my feet yet so she has been so great at helping me get the house organized and keeping me fed! We're so grateful to her for all that she has done for us this past week and we're also so grateful that she's had this time to really get to know her new grandson.
I thought that I would also take this chance to talk a bit about Bodhi's name. We've had a lot of questions about where it comes from and how we came up with it. Basically, Bodhi is a sanskrit word mean "awakening, or to awaken". In the Buddhist world, it takes many forms - it's direct meaning being "enlightenment". You can also see the root word Bodhi in many Buddhist words - Bodhisattva (which in Buddhism mainly refers to a being that compassionately refrains from entering nirvana in order to save others), Bodhidharma (the Buddhist monk that is credited with bringing Zen to China), and the Bodhi tree, which is the tree under which the Buddha was sitting when he attained enlightenment.
No pressure, Bodhi!
