Wow. I know that I read in all of my "What to Expect the First Year" type books that a baby can get up to 10 colds in his first year - but I assumed that they just wrote those things to make parents feel better whose babies only had 3 or 4. No. Not so much. Bodhi is now just getting over ANOTHER cold. I think that makes 5 bouts of illness in 2009. It seems that every time we go anywhere he gets sick. Is this what we have to look forward to for all of his school-age years to come? Is it wrong to turn him into a "bubble boy" and just roll him everywhere in a big inflatable ball that blocks out all possible germs? Every cold also comes with a new fun dynamic. One might include a cough, a throw up, a strange rash - this one, however, included a fever that lasted no more than 12 hours. Just enough time to get me all worked up and concerned and drowning in baby care books and internet research - and then it was gone.
Bodhi is such a little sweetheart during these little sicknesses. He obviously doesn't feel well with his big watery eyes, stuffy nose and droopy face - but taking a shining front seat to all of that is his big beautiful smile. We can learn so much from this little man who is always so happy and positive and without complaint. He doesn't whine, he doesn't cry, he just goes about his happy little life, playing and chatting away while we fret over him. Today we went for a long walk and he just hunkered down in the stroller all comfy and cozy and watched the sites as we went rolling by, stopping now and then to watch the robins and squirrels on our route. These are wonderful days - every single one of them - even the sick ones!
