Ode to the Sleep Sack

When Bodhi first came home we were completely stumped about what to put him in to sleep. We had plenty of sleepers, but it was still chilly and they just didn't seem like enough. Of course, blankets are out of the question (one of the many, many, many, many choking/suffocation hazards). We were planning on swaddling him, but as strong as he is, he kept wriggling out of the swaddle after a while to get his arms loose and we were nervous of the blankets getting loose in the bassinet (see: choking hazard). So what to do? Was there anything that would keep our boy warm AND allow him to have him precious arms free? We thought and thought and thought - this was going to be the biggest decision we would have to make as new parents (okay - maybe not, but at the time it seemed REALLY important). So I started going through our box of blankets...and there it was. Still in it's package, brand new and shiny - the sleep sack. Andrea had given Bodhi the sleep sack for Christmas - knowing, of course, as the excellent parent that she is, that no child can go without one. I took out the sleep sack and inserted a tiny baby. TA DA! It was perfect. All warm and cozy inside with the added bonus of free arms for fist sucking and random punches to his own face (we need to work on that).

Bodhi has slept in the sleep sack every night since with the clothing underneath becoming smaller and smaller as the weather gets warmer. These past few nights he's been sleeping in a onesie and the sleep sack and is as happy as can be.

My absolute favourite part of the sleep sack which I know will never grow old, is each morning when I reach into his bassinet and unzip him and open up the sack. His legs are all curled up and warm inside and I feel like I'm opening a little squishy present every time. How great is that?
