Road trip times 2!

This past week Dan was off at sesshin so Bodhi and I hit the rails and headed off to Kingston. As always, Bodhi was great on the train and slept most of the way and was very excited to see his Grandma waiting for him on the other end! We had a really great visit - 5 whole days! We arrived on a very special day - Aunt Karen's birthday! - and had a great visit and dinner with B and K and Bodhi's couzees! Bodhi followed Sophie around everywhere and thought she was the greatest thing in the world - it was hilarious! And little Clara and Bodhi were just as comfy around each other as ever - I can't wait to see these two grow up together! We spent time shopping for accessories to "stage" Liz's house to sell and shopping for father's day gifts - lots of shopping - my kind of visit! The rest of the trip was filled with family dinners, lots of cousin playtime, dinner with Liz, and even test driving canoes (Grandma's in the market!). It was an absolutely fantastic trip. Bodhi seems to be getting more and more comfortable away from home each time we stay somewhere else. He slept really well in his own bed and was happy and energetic the whole time. We returned to Toronto on Father's Day where we picked up our favourite guy at the Zen Centre then headed home for presents and Indian food - Dan's favourite!

But the excitement didn't end there! Months ago, we planned our annual Christopher family canoe trip for the summer and with the camping weekend looming we decided we should take a little practice run. So we decided to pack up the car and go on a spontaneous camping trip at Sherkston Shores. The resort was pretty busy and we were a bit deterred when we saw the sea of tents and RVs that we thought we would be sleeping up against, but we soon realized that us "cheap" campers (no electric, water etc...) had our own secluded spot in the woods. There were about 20 spots in total but they were all deserted so we had our pick of the place. After unpacking the car and setting up our beautiful and HUGE new tent, we set off to explore the resort. We had a nice lunch and then hit the pool - also very busy! Bodhi and Dan bounced around in the pool for a while until it was time to head back. We were lucky to have nice weather, but the day was VERY hot - steamy at 32 degrees! We were glad for the big shady vestibule on our tent and had some playtime and dinner underneath. Bodhi was his usual adaptable self and had a ball climbing in and out of the tent, flopping back on our sleeping bags and giggling away. He went to bed without incident and Dan and I stayed up playing cards and reading. The next morning we had a leisurely start to our day, napping, reading and relaxing - then off to the pool again! It was another scorcher, but we were a bit more used to it by then.

On our way back to the tent at about 3pm, I made a comment to Dan about how funny it would be if now the entire area we were camped in were now filled with other campers - ha ha ha. We turned the corner and there they were - 6 tents all in a row right across from ours. Oh no! So, of course, we climbed into the tent and spied on our new neighbours to see what we were dealing with. It was when we saw the fifth 18 year old boy carrying a case of beer get out of the pick up truck that we decided we should head for home. The car was packed in a matter of minutes and we headed for Cambridge. After a really nice dinner out with the family, we finally headed for home.

Bodhi is now fast asleep in his own crib, for what seems like the first time in weeks, and Dan and I are about to settle in with a movie. It's always nice to be on the road and visiting people and places, but there's no place like home!
