Does Dada count as a first word? If it does, then its pretty much every kid's first word, right? Well "Dada" first came out of Bodhi's mouth months ago ("Mama" was very very far behind), and over the last month or so, more and more words keep finding their way out!
There are only a few words that he actually uses and knows their meaning: hi (to everyone he sees); up up up up (when he wants you to pick him up); out out out out (when he wants out of his crib, sandbox etc...); hat (everything that he can pick up and put on his head is a hat); uh oh (when he drops something) - actually that one seems to always come out "uh oh Dad"; dirty (when his hands are dirty - he lifts them up and tells us!); and then, of course, Dada and Mama (Mama really only comes out while crying though!).
Then, of course, there are the words that he repeats, which are many! My favourites are "allright!", "Bodhi", "apple", "duck", and "shoes" which also doubles as "socks". It always amazes me when he suddenly repeats a word I've said - babies are so incredible! A couple of weeks ago while we were visiting with Grandma, she started singing two notes to him and he would copy them exactly. Amazing. He just walks around the house all day chatting away to himself, or picking up the phone, saying hi to his imaginary friend and then holding a full conversation in gibberish.
Another new discovery is his talent for singing! One day he just started singing the E-I-E-I-O part of Old McDonald. Check it out!
